The
Shelby Daytona Cobra is built by Hi-Tech Automotive under license
from Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc. and imported into the UK by
Le Mans Coupes Limited.
Hi-Tech
Automotive manufacture the coupe at their 270,000 square
foot factory in Port Elizabeth South Africa, which is
the largest privately owned specialised automotive manufacturing
plant in
the world. It is where Jim Price and his dedicated team of more
than 600 craftsmen and associated employees manufacture
the coupe, the Superformance range, the Noble supercar and other
branded products.
Le
Mans Coupes Limited was formed by Nigel Hulme in 2003
to import the Shelby Daytona Cobra, as a direct result of the
passion both
he and Jim Price shared for the iconic coupe. He called the company
Le Mans Coupes Ltd because it was also to import the GT40,
another Hi-Tech Automotive celebration of a famous Le Mans winner,
the Ford GT40.
As
sole UK importer for both cars in 'turn key' form, Nigel
needed to appoint a selling agent to
complete the picture. With his extensive knowledge of all things
Cobra,
Rod
Leach of
Rod
Leach's Nostalgia proved the ideal match, and the first car
was brought into the UK in September 2003.
